DPM Dar heads to Hong Kong for launch of International Mediation Organisation

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will travel to Hong Kong on May 29 to attend a high-level ceremony marking the formal establishment of the International Organisation for Mediation (IOMed), according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

Dar is expected to sign the founding convention and deliver a keynote speech at the signing event on May 30. The agreement brings together countries backing the use of mediation as a means to resolve global disputes without resorting to conflict.

Pakistan is joining as one of the founding members of IOMed and considers the initiative an important step towards advancing dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution on the international stage.

While in Hong Kong, Dar is also scheduled to meet with counterparts from other participating countries on the sidelines of the event.

I a statement released ahead of the trip, the Foreign Office said Pakistan strongly supports efforts to promote diplomacy, dialogue, and negotiated solutions in line with the UN Charter and international law. It added that mediation remains central to maintaining global peace and stability.

The two-day visit reflects Islamabad’s continued diplomatic engagement with emerging multilateral platforms that seek to resolve disputes through peaceful means.
