WEBDESK: The silence of the Indian government and the alleged failure of the government in the operation Sindoor have been sharply criticised by the leaders of the congress and very public questions have been asked about transparency and accountability.
Senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P. Chidambaram took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that even after three months, the PM has not spoken a word about the operation or the deadly Pahalgam attack that preceded it. “People are being kept in the dark. The attackers are still missing. No identification. No arrests. Only shelter providers have been caught,” said Chidambaram.
He also questioned the National Investigation Agency (NIA)’s role, accusing it of hiding facts and lacking transparency. “Why is the investigation being kept secret? Why hasn’t the government disclosed any findings?” he asked.
Chidambaram warned that hiding the truth is a betrayal of the people. He also challenged the Indian government’s claim that the attackers came from Pakistan, stating that no proof has been shared publicly. “The terrorists could have been from inside India too. Why is the government not telling the truth?” he asked.
In Parliament on 28 July, Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda also attacked the Modi government during a special session on Operation Sindoor. “If India was winning the war and the world believed Modi was strong, then why did the government agree to a ceasefire?” Hooda asked.
He demanded that the government reveal the terms of the ceasefire. He also accused the External Affairs Minister of giving a “clean chit” to Pakistan and its military.
Chidambaram further raised doubts about the ceasefire process, asking if former US President Donald Trump helped broker the deal, then why is the Modi government hiding that? “If there was a call between the DGMOs, there must be a recording. If not, that’s a bigger failure,” he said.
Chidambaram also said that India’s intelligence agencies failed badly in the operation and that covering up the damage is cheating the people.
