LAHORE: Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken a major step to provide relief to the people of Punjab by ordering a reduction in roti price across the province. This move is part of a wider plan to make everyday food items more affordable for the public during tough economic times.
New Roti Price in Punjab
As per the new ruling, a 100 gram roti is priced at Rs16 and a 120 gram naan is set at Rs20. The Punjab Essential Commodities (Control) Ordinance 2023 has set these prices.
To make sure the new roti price is followed strictly, all bakeries and tandoors have been told to display clear banners showing the updated rates and weight. The banners must also include a complaint number and the name of the area’s Deputy Commissioner, so people can easily report any violations.
Maryam Nawaz has ordered Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners to monitor daily how the new roti price is being applied. Officials from the Food Authority will regularly inspect the roti and naan sold in restaurants.
In a show of hands on leadership, both Maryam Nawaz and her father, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, visited local markets in Lahore to check whether the new roti price was being followed. They spoke directly with bakers and residents to hear their feedback.
This roti price cut is part of a broader campaign by the Punjab government to fight inflation. Maryam Nawaz has also ordered action against hoarders and profiteers and is personally monitoring food prices through a dedicated dashboard.
