Christians in Pakistan are all set to celebrate Easter today (Sunday).
It is a religious festival celebrating rebirth, renewal and hope. Among the colourful celebrations around the world, Easter is also being marked in some of the world’s most troubled spots, like in Gaza.
Easter holiday in Sindh
Earlier, the Sindh government officially declared a two-day public holiday on April 20 and 21, 2025.
According to details, the holidays were announced in connection with Easter celebrations.
Based on the 2023 Pakistan Census, Christians comprise about 1.37 per cent of Pakistan’s population and number over 3.3 million Christians within a population of roughly 241 million.
Some church leaders suggest that figure is low, estimating the Christian population may be as high as 5 million, with at least 3.5 million in Punjab province alone and a significant population in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provinces
Busy commercial areas such as Saddar, Gakkhar Plaza, Murree Road, Moti Bazaar, Raja Bazaar, Tench Bhatta Bazaar, Commercial Market, Aabpara, Super Market, Jinnah Super, and Karachi Company witnessed a shopping rush from morning till 1am. Families, especially children, shopped for garments, shoes, and artificial jewellery.
Christian leaders Rashid Chauhan and Pastor Asif expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements, stating that the community will fully cooperate with the administration and police.
