WEBDESK: China has said it is closely watching the latest Israeli strikes on Iran and is urging all sides to act in ways that support peace and stability in the region.

The foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing is “deeply concerned about the grave consequences” the military operations could bring, and has called on those involved to avoid any further rise in tensions.

The spokesperson added that China is prepared to take on a “constructive role” in helping calm the situation.

China expressed strong concern over the Israeli attacks on Iranian sites, including military and nuclear facilities.

Spokesperson Lin Jian condemned what he called “violations” of Iran’s sovereignty and stressed that China is open to helping defuse the crisis.

“The Chinese side… is deeply worried about the severe consequences that such actions might bring,” Lin said.

He repeated calls for the involved parties to “take actions that promote regional peace and stability” and to stay away from moves that could make matters worse.

China has strong ties with Iran, being its largest trading partner and top buyer of oil, despite Iran still being under heavy US sanctions.

Lin made it clear that Beijing “opposes violations of Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.”

He also added, “We oppose escalating tensions and expanding conflicts,” warning that “the sudden escalation of the regional situation does not serve the interests of any party.”

He ended by saying, “The Chinese side is willing to play a constructive role in easing the situation.”
