Car ends up in drain after trusting Google Maps

Google Maps

Another incident has emerged in India where blind trust in Google Maps led to trouble.

According to Indian media, the incident happened in Mumbai when a car following the route suggested by Google Maps fell into a drain. Luckily, the woman driving the car was rescued.

Reports say Google Maps showed a path under the Belapur bridge, while the actual road was above it. This mistake caused the car to fall into the drain.

Indian media reported that nearby people and rescue workers saved the woman, and later her car was pulled out with a crane.

This is not the first time someone has faced an accident by blindly trusting Google Maps. Several similar incidents have been reported earlier.

This isn’t an isolated incident. Google Maps has faced criticism for several misdirections that have ended in tragedy or near-misses.

Experts warn that while digital navigation aids are helpful, they’re not infallible, especially in areas with poor infrastructure data, under-construction roads, or extreme weather.

Users are urged to stay alert, cross-check routes when possible, and avoid depending entirely on GPS, especially during night travel or in unfamiliar terrain.

Google Maps caused an accident

Earlier, three men lost their lives when their car, guided by an outdated version of Google Maps, directed them to drive off the edge of an unfinished bridge in Uttar Pradesh, India.

The car plunged 30ft to the ground, resulting in the deaths of all three passengers.
