Tehran has reportedly been rocked by blasts shortly after United States (US) President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
The development has been confirmed by multiple media outlets, including Al Jazeera.
The news emerged just minutes after Trump took to social media to announce the agreement.
According to him, the ceasefire will take effect several hours later, once Israel and Iran have completed their ongoing final missions.
The ceasefire will be phased in during the next 24 hours, according to the president’s post.
However, there has been no confirmation from either side yet.
Trump may have sent ceasefire proposal just minutes before public announcement
Before the announcement, CNN reported that Iran had not received any ceasefire proposal and saw no reason for one, citing a senior Iranian official.
It is pertinent to mention that the time gap between CNN’s exclusive report and Trump’s ceasefire announcement was almost half an hour.
This suggests that the US may have sent the proposal just minutes before Trump made it public.
Before ceasefire, Trump “thanked” Iran for giving early notice about its attack on a US base in Qatar.
While Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, said that the country would not submit to any aggression.
