WEBDESK: Barcelona put on a stunning performance in the Barcelona vs Dortmund Champions League quarter-final first leg, beating Borussia Dortmund 4-0 at the Montjuïc Stadium on Wednesday night.
Veteran striker Robert Lewandowski led the charge with two goals, showing he still has what it takes at the age of 37. His brace against his former club, Borussia Dortmund took his goal tally for the season to 40, proving his class once again.
The match saw Barcelona in complete control. Raphinha started things off with a neat finish in the 25th minute before Lewandowski added two quick goals in the second half to make it 3-0. 17-year old Lamine Yamal scored in the 77th minute to round out the night.
Raphinha’s goal and assist for Lewandowski now means that he’s leading the competition in both goals and assists for this season (12 goals, 7 assists).
“We played very well, but we can’t be thinking about the semi-finals yet,” Lewandowski said. “We scored four goals at home, but we still have the return leg to play.”
Midfielders Pedri and Frenkie de Jong dominated the center of the pitch, creating chances and controlling the flow of the game. On the other end, goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny made key saves to keep Dortmund from scoring, helping Barcelona secure a clean sheet.
Dortmund had a few moments of hope, but they couldn’t keep up with the pace or energy of the Spanish side in the Barcelona vs Dortmund game. The German side now faces a tough challenge in the second leg if they hope to make a comeback.
This Barcelona vs Dortmund result gives Barcelona a strong lead heading into the return match. Making the semi-finals of the competition for the first time since 2019 now looks very much in sight for the Barcelona team.
