Webdesk: The video of the cold-blooded Balochistan Honour Killing of a man and a woman has shocked Pakistan, as people are now demanding quick action, even as the authorities have condemned the incident. Ordered by a tribal leader, the couple or rather two married people, Noor Bano Bibi and Ihsanullah, were already executed in the Sanjidi area in Balochistan close to Quetta.

Balochistan Honour Killing happened days before Eidul al-Adha, and it was not until a heartwrenching footage of the killing was released on social media that the act was discovered.

In the footage that was released, the victims were led to a desert and shot severely. Investigations have shown that the murder was conducted when the couple was found guilty by a local jirga for an immoral relationship. It is confirmed by police reports that the woman was shot seven times and the man nine times.

Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti was quick to condemn the killings, terming them a serious offence to human dignity. He added the arrest of 11 suspects, including a tribal leader, Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai. It has been forwarded to the Serious Crime Investigation Wing, and the state continues to exercise the role of complainant so that there is no outside influence in getting justice served.

Bugti also refuted allegations that the couple had just got married, saying that both had kids of their own. No matter whether they were in a relationship or not, according to him, it is murder, it is a crime, no one has a right to take a life and record videos of the acts.

Balochistan High Court Chief Justice himself has also taken notice of the Balochistan Honour Killing and summoned high officials to the hearing. In the meantime, the well-known personalities of the country, such as PPP Shazia Marri, Bilawal Bhutto, and Sherry Rehman, lauded the act as an infringement of Islamic and constitutional rights.

As the case is still under investigation, activists and legislators are not only demanding justice but also the overhaul of the system so that the cycle of honour-based violence can be interrupted.

According to data from the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, having had as many as 346 honour killings occur in 2024 alone, this case is viewed as a trial balloon in the commitment of the state to serve justice and human rights.
