KARACHI (Azaad English): Muhammad Rizwan, captain of the Pakistan cricket team, has backed Babar Azam to open the innings in the upcoming Champions Trophy in a press conference on Tuesday, 18th February.
Speaking at the press conference, Muhammad Rizwan called Babar Azam the most “solid technical player” on the team. He said that this decision was taken, keeping in mind the home conditions that they will be playing in.
According to Rizwan, there are options for other openers in the team but as of now, Babar will open.
When asked about whether Haris Rauf has recovered from his injury or not, the Pakistani skipper remarked, “Haris Rauf is bowling at full speed again and is gaining his rhythm.”
Referring to the team’s recent performance in the tri-nation series, he said that the players were learning from their mistakes and promised a good performance in the Champions Trophy.
He said that the ICC event should be enjoyed by the whole nation while acknowledging that the stadiums have been built in record time.
Pakistan have achieved great success in recent editions of the tournament. They won the last edition of the tournament held in 2017, defeating India in a thrilling final.
Pakistan will be hoping to recreate the same success in the upcoming tournament that will start on 19th February.
Pakistan will take on New Zealand in the first match of the Champions Trophy on 19th February at National Bank Stadium, Karachi.
