Azaad Fact Check has debunked a piece of misinformation being circulated by Indian based X accounts falsely claiming that India shot down Pakistani fighter jets on May 10.
Azaad Fact Check has also identified a pattern behind false information against Pakistan, which is generally shared and amplified by right-wing Indian extremists and BJP-affiliated accounts.
The video in question shows a slow-moving object falling from the sky, which the poster claimed was “proof” of a downed Indian pilot ejecting safely after an alleged Pakistani airstrike.
However, upon closer inspection and frame-by-frame analysis, Azaad Fact Check confirmed that no parachute was visible in the footage.
“There is no evidence in the video of a parachute being deployed,” the fact-checking outlet said in a statement.
“The object descends too slowly and with too much flutter to be a human figure. It closely resembles the behavior of a light plastic shopping bag being carried by the wind.”
The platform also emphasized that the angle, speed, and weight distribution of the falling object do not match the physics of a person parachuting.
“Such misrepresentation of videos not only misleads the public but also contributes to the spread of war-related misinformation during a sensitive time,” the statement added
