Azaad fact check: China has not delayed PNS Hangor submarine delivery, Indian media claim debunked

WEBDESK: Azaad fact-check has identified another false claim made by an Indian social media account, where it is alleged that China has delayed the delivery of PNS Hangor-Class Submarines to Pakistan, however, the deliveries are proceeding as planned.

The misleading X post claims that the ‘delay’ has been made due to a combat management system issue. But this claim is found to be completely fake and fabricated.

Azaad fact check debunks these claims, stating that “The deliveries are proceeding as planned.”

The article attached to the misleading post claims that “China has delayed the delivery of the PNS Hangor-class submarines due to critical issues identified in the vessels’ Combat Management System (CMS)”

Indian Defence Research Wing (IDRW), which shared the post claims to be “India’s Most Read Defence News Website for the last 19 years since 2006,” raising serious questions about the credibility of Indian defence reporting.

For a platform that boasts 19 years as India’s most-read defence website, IDRW’s reliance on falsehoods is a revealing commentary on the state of Indian defence journalism.

Azaad fact check: What is a Combat Management System (CMS)

The CMS is the central command and control system that incorporates various onboard systems to manage and execute missions.

It can be described as the ‘brain’ of a submarine, which enables it to process data from sensors and other systems to supply a detailed, comprehensive picture os the tactical situation. This helps the crew to make better-informed and efficient decisions.

The CMS acts as a central hub, and it integrates data from various sensors like radar, sonar, electronic warfare systems, navigation systems and weapon systems. These core functions make its efficiency of top-notch importance.

It plays an important role in decision-making. The CMS translates the raw data into a usable format, allowing the crew to track its targets, plan engagements and manage all weapons effectively.

Modern CMS are designed to handle various missions, including anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), and anti-air warfare (AAW). It provides complete situational awareness.

A CMS typically includes control consoles, a combat data center and a data network. This helps in facilitating communication and data exchange between different systems.

These misleading claims can be seen not only as an attempt to create frustration within the general public.

These can distort public perception, fuel hostility, undermine peace efforts, target and demoralise the consumers, and weaken trust in Pakistan’s national institutions.

To be safe and correctly informed, it is advised to wait for official sources to release any new information.
