WEBDESK: Atlas Honda, Pakistan’s leading motorcycle manufacturer, is set to launch its first electric bike by June 2025. The company, which currently dominates 85% of the local motorcycle market, aims to strengthen its position by introducing eco-friendly transportation options.

Challenges in Pakistan’s Electric Bike Market

Despite government incentives, electric bikes have struggled to gain popularity in Pakistan, accounting for less than 1% of total motorcycle sales in 2024. High costs, limited charging infrastructure, and consumer skepticism have slowed adoption. However, Atlas Honda’s strong brand reputation and vast manufacturing network could drive a shift toward electric mobility.

With a production capacity of around 1.3 million motorcycles annually and over 95 per cent of components sourced domestically, Atlas Honda is well-positioned to tailor its electric bikes to the local market. The company’s in-house research and development team will focus on creating models suited to Pakistan’s unique conditions.

Globally, sales of electric two-wheelers are surging, particularly in Asian markets like India and China, where affordability and government subsidies have spurred adoption. However, rapid advancements in EV technology, such as BYD’s ‘Blade Battery’ and ultra-fast 1,000kW charging systems for four-wheelers, highlight the risks of relying on imported units.

What to Expect from Atlas Honda’s Electric Bike

The upcoming electric bike is expected to feature a 48-volt battery with a range of up to 65 kilometers per charge. Charging time will be approximately six to seven hours, and users will have the convenience of a portable charger for home and office use. While the price is expected to be slightly higher than traditional bikes, the quality and reliability of Atlas Honda’s products may attract buyers.

Production Plans and Future Growth

Initially, Atlas Honda plans to produce 25,000 units, with an annual output of around 8,000 units in the following years. This cautious approach reflects the company’s long-term commitment to sustainable transportation in Pakistan.

What will the price be?

Though pricing details remain undisclosed, sources indicate Atlas Honda’s electric bikes will have a slight premium compared to existing local options, reflecting higher-quality components. Competitors like Jolta Electric and SkyElectric currently offer bikes priced between Rs150,000 and Rs350,000.

With this move, Atlas Honda is positioning itself as a key player in Pakistan’s electric vehicle market. By leveraging its trusted brand and strong production capabilities, the company hopes to encourage the widespread adoption of electric two-wheelers. As global trends push toward cleaner energy solutions, Atlas Honda’s entry into the electric bike segment could be a game-changer for the country’s motorcycle industry.
