The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the Indian team will participate in the Asia Cup.
According to reports, the BCCI has no plans to withdraw from the event.
The decision regarding this was made after two months of consultation.
The board thought that any boycott could have repercussions on India’s bids to host major competitions, including the Olympic Games 2036, the Commonwealth Games 2030 and the Youth Olympics 2032.
The BCCI has argued that refusing to play against a specific country in a multinational event would violate international sporting norms.
Asia Cup: Pak vs Ind match
Asia Cup will start from September 9th, 2025.
The match between India and Pakistan will be played on September 14th.
The eight-team tournament will be played across two venues in the UAE – Dubai International Cricket Stadium and Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
It is pertinent to mention that there was a lot of pressure from the government over the decision to play in the Asia Cup.
Earlier, the India vs Pakistan match of World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 was called off after Indian cricketers refused to play against Pakistan, mixing politics with sports.
WCL pointed out that other sporting events between Pakistan and India, such as hockey and volleyball, had resumed, so the management decided to go ahead with the match.
Ever since the Pahalgam incident, India’s attitude has further strained ties with Pakistan.
