Pakistan’s top javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem has been named Asia’s Best Male Athlete by Asian Athletics, recognising his exceptional performances on the international stage.
The award was presented on Sunday during a ceremony in Gumi, South Korea, following the Asian Athletics Association Council meeting. The event brought together top officials and dignitaries from across the region, including retired Major General Muhammad Akram Sahi, Chairman of South Asian Athletics, and Brigadier (retd) Wajahat Hussain Sahi, President of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan.
Nadeem, 28, shared his gratitude on social media, saying he was “humbled and recharged to give better performances” after receiving the honour.
The accolade comes after a historic year for Nadeem, who became Pakistan’s first Olympic gold medallist in an individual sport after winning the javelin final at the 2024 Paris Games with a record-breaking 92.97-metre throw. He was also the country’s first-ever athletics medallist at the Summer Olympics.
To date, he has secured four gold, one silver, and four bronze medals across a range of competitions, including the Olympics, World Athletics Championships, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Islamic Solidarity Games, South Asian Games, and the Asian U20 Championships.
Nadeem is now preparing to compete in the upcoming Asian Athletics Championships, again representing Pakistan at the continental level.
