WEBDESK: Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has officially pulled out of the HBL PSL 2025, with Islamabad confirming the news ahead of their opening match against Lahore in Rawalpindi on Friday.

He was expected to play for Islamabad United as a partial replacement for South African batter Rassie van der Dussen. However, due to domestic cricket duties in Australia, Alex Carey will no longer be available for this year’s tournament.

Islamabad United confirmed the news hours before their first match against Lahore Qalandars in Rawalpindi. This is a significant development as Alex Carey was seen as a valuable addition to the squad. His experience and batting skills were expected to strengthen the team’s lineup during the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League.

Despite Alex Carey opting out, Islamabad United remains confident. The team is now looking forward to Van der Dussen rejoining the squad later in the tournament. The franchise has also reassured fans that they have enough depth and talent in the lineup to stay competitive.

The HBL PSL 2025 began on April 11 and features six teams competing in 34 matches. Games are being held across Lahore, Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Multan, with the final scheduled at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. The league is celebrating its 10th season and has attracted top international and local talent.

Islamabad United’s squad still boasts big names like Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah, Azam Khan, and Jason Holder. While the absence of Alex Carey is a blow, the team’s focus remains on performing well and contending for the PSL title.

Earlier, Corbin Bosch was fined by PCB and banned from PSL for one year for withdrawing from the competition to join the IPL which was a breach of his contract.
