WEBDESK: A brand new airline is soon ready to start operating and offering flights in Pakistan. Recently, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) gave its approval to Air Karachi to operate commercial flights.
The airline is supported by some of Karachi’s top businessmen, including Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Arif Habib, and SM Tanveer. With their backing, Air Karachi hopes to improve domestic and international air travel by offering more options and better services.
Air Karachi has been granted a Regular Public Transport (RPT) licence by the CAA as it prepares to start its services. As part of its process, the airline has submitted Rs 100 million as a security deposit and is now focused on gathering the extra Rs 500 million to meet its initial paid up capital.
To strengthen its financial base, it aims to raise around Rs 5 billion by including 100 shareholders, with each contributing Rs50 million.
A number of skilled aviation experts are part of the airline’s management team. Air Karachi has recruited Retired Air Vice Marshal Imran Qadir as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) due to his broad knowledge from the Pakistan Air Force.
In its first phase, the airline plans to lease three aircraft to launch domestic flights. The airline’s management has revealed that, after a year of domestic operations, they intend to expand services to Middle Eastern destinations. This move is expected to provide strong competition to existing airlines like PIA, Airblue, SereneAir, and AirSial.
