On 3 November 2022, former prime minister Khan was shot and wounded in an attempted assassination in Wazirabad, Punjab during a political rally named “Azadi March II”.

Seven people, including Imran Khan and other party leaders were injured in the attack while one party worker was killed.

The Punjab police confirmed that a party worker, who was in the city to welcome the caravan — which was there for the party’s second iteration of its “Azadi” march — was killed in the attack. Meanwhile, a suspect was also taken into custody from the site.

The injured include PTI leaders Ahmed Chattha and Chaudhry Yousuf, and party workers Omer Meyer and Rashid.

Following the attack, Imran Khan was immediately shifted to a hospital in Lahore. Social media was filled with videos in which a party worker could be seen stopping the gunman during the attack.

PTI leader Asad Umar, in a video message hours after the incident, said that party chairman Imran Khan had named three suspects who could be behind today’s attack.
