LAHORE: Citizens of Lahore have witnessed no major differences in essential food items prices between ‘Sahulat Bazar’ and general markets during the holy month of Ramadan.

Although, the provincial government vowed to reduce the food items’ prices across the province, citizens could not get much benefit even from ‘Sahulat Bazars.’

Despite the passing of half of Ramadan, food items like fruits and vegetables have witnessed no major decrease in prices across the city’s ‘Sahulat bazars’ or open markets.

For instance, potatoes are selling for Rs 50 per kg in the convenience market on Wahdat Road, while they are selling for Rs 45 to Rs 50 per kg in the general market. Onions and tomatoes are being sold for Rs 45 and Rs 55 per kg respectively in both places.

Apples are priced at Rs 280 per kilo in the Sahulat Bazaar, while they are priced at Rs 250 per kilo in the general market. Bananas are priced at Rs 250 per dozen in the Sahulat Bazaar, while they are priced at Rs 200 per dozen in the general market.

However, there has been price reduction of sugar and chicken in the government-mandated markets. In Sahulat bazars, chicken is being sold at Rs575 per Kg while its selling for Rs595 per kg in the open market.

Similarly, the price of sugar in the convenience market is Rs. 130 per kg, while in the general market it is Rs. 170 per kg.

Citizens say the government should further reduce the prices of essential commodities so that the public can get real relief during Ramadan.
