In recent days, various videos and posts on social media have sparked rumours suggesting that the Suzuki Alto is being banned fro motorways and GT Road due to concerns over its basic safety features and substandard build quality.
These speculations emerged after videos of a Suzuki Alto involved in an accident, showing the car completely crushed, began circulating online. As a result, some individuals started to believe that the vehicle would be prohibited from entering major roads, leading to widespread confusion and concern among Alto owners.
Worried Suzuki Alto owners took to social media, expressing their frustration, with many questioning the validity of the rumours. They voiced concerns about the potential restrictions, wondering whether their Rs3 million vehicles would soon be relegated to local trips, with no option but to leave their cars unused at home.
However, today, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) issued a statement clarifying that the Suzuki Alto is not banned from motorways. The NHMP dismissed the circulating rumours as fake news.
In their statement, the NHMP said: “The widespread news circulating on social media regarding the imposition of a ban on a specific car (Alto) by the Ministry of Interior has been declared false.
Ministry officials have clarified that this news has neither been issued by any credible nor official sources, and there is no truth to it. The public is requested not to believe unverified information and to always refer to the official sources of the Ministry of Interior for accurate information.”
Despite facing criticism over its build quality, the Suzuki Alto remains Pakistan’s best-selling car. It continues to lead in all categories, mainly due to its relatively lower price compared to other brands’ vehicles.
