A multi-level parking building adjacent to Centaurus Mall in Islamabad is in the works, Dawn has reported.

According to the report, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) had previously awarded a contract to a company for managing digital parking in Islamabad. However, due to allegations of corruption and wrongdoing, the CDA cancelled the contract.

In May 2021, the idea of building a multi-level parking plaza near Islamabad’s Centaurus Mall was first introduced. The Capital Development Authority approved the designs for two parking plazas in Blue Area on May 30, 2021. One of these plazas, planned for a 1.5-acre lot close to Centaurus Mall, was expected to accommodate 900 cars and include features such as a food court, a drive-in cinema, and a football pitch on the roof.

The project was anticipated to be completed in eight months and was estimated to cost around Rs35.8 million. After the tendering process, the CDA aimed to begin construction in July 2021.

However, the CDA later cancelled that contract and shifted its focus to developing proper parking infrastructure. This led to renewed efforts to construct the multi-level parking plaza near Centaurus Mall to address the area’s parking issues.

Separately, earlier this month, the CDA announced plans for a state-of-the-art food street in Blue Area, featuring a variety of local and international food brands, modern infrastructure, and ample parking.

The food street will offer visitors a superior dining experience in an organised setting, with electric carts available for senior citizens and children. The project will also adopt a cashless payment system.
