WEBDESK: Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) has chosen to cancel the lowest-of-the-line Suzuki Alto VX variant to make way for better cars that are safer and have more advanced safety features.

The Suzuki Alto is one of the most popular hatchbacks in country, recognised for its low price and fuel consumption. Rumours began circulating on social media yesterday that the Alto had been discontinued. Another rumour suggested that the National Highway Authority (NHA) had banned Alto from motorways.

These rumours came after a recent tragic accident where an Alto was crushed by a fully-loaded 12 wheeler truck, leaving the car in pieces.

According to industry reports, the company will stop production of its VX variant, which lacks safety features such as airbags and Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS). Moving forward, customers will be able to purchase upgraded variants of the Suzuki Alto car with it’s VXR model getting major safety feature upgrades.

The Suzuki VXR will be given a major upgrade with the ABS being the most important addition. ABS enhances car control and prevents accidents, making the Alto a safer option for families.

Other expected enhancements include power windows, seatbelt reminders, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and improved seatbelt designs. These updates will give the Alto VXR a better safety profile, which has been a long-time demand from Pakistani buyers.

Price of Suzuki Alto VXR

With these upgrades, PSMC has also adjusted the Suzuki Alto’s price. The new prices are:

  • Suzuki Alto VXR MT: Rs2,827,000 (increase of Rs120,000)
  • Suzuki Alto VXR AGS: Rs2,989,000 (increase of Rs95,000)
  • Suzuki Alto VXL AGS: Rs3,140,000 (increase of Rs95,000)

The significant price increase for the Alto VXR MT indicates that it will be most helped by safety updates. Although PSMC has not yet announced full specifications, these price changes affirm that the firm is placing value on updated features and enhanced safety.
