RAWALPINDI (AZAAD ENGLISH): Aleema Khan while talking to media outside Adiala Jail on Tuesday revealed that founder Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has rejected the Khyber Pakthtunkhwa (KP) government’s decision to rename a stadium after him.
On February 21, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur signed a summary renaming Peshawar’s Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium as the “Imran Khan Cricket Stadium” to honour Khan’s contributions in Pakistan’s sports.
However, Khan’s sister Aleema revealed that the former Prime Minister has rejected the decision taken by KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur.
“The first thing Khan talked about with us today was some stadium in Peshawar renamed after him. He disliked the proposal very much and asserted that he has never done anything like this and he does not like it if anyone else does it for him too,” stated Aleema Khan today.
Imran Khan rejects Gandapur’s decision
“He has demanded that the stadium’s new name [Imran Khan cricket stadium] must be taken back. He emphasised this message particularly.”
She also opined that Imran Khan must have found out about this development through newspaper while revealing that he did not like this at all.
Previously, the summary had stated that CM Gandapur desired the renaming of stadium located in Shahi Bagh, Peshawar.
It should be highlighted that it is the only stadium in Peshawar that is allowed to hold international cricket matches. KP Sports minister Syed Fakhar Jahan while talking to media had stated that renaming the stadium after Khan was apolitical. According to the minister, Imran Khan remained the biggest name in nation’s sporting history.
Meanwhile, a team of doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) conducted a medical examination of Imran Khan in Adiala Jail on Monday.
The development comes after Khan’s alleged deteriorating health rumours became the topic of discussions by PTI supporters.
