Pakistan’s hopes in latching onto Champions Trophy 2025 have ended after New Zealand defeated Bangladesh in Rawalpindi stadium on Monday.

Pakistan captain Muhammad Rizwan during the post-match press conference after Pak-India game in Dubai, had already conceded the team’s defeat: “We can say that our campaign is as good as over. We have to depend on results of other matches. There is hope as there is one more game left. As a captain, I don’t like this scenario.”

Pakistan and Bangladesh, both out of the semifinals, will play each other on February 27. In today’s match, Kiwis’ Rachin Ravindra made an excellent performance by scoring a century after NZ had restricted the Bangladesh team to 236 runs.

Likewise, Michael Bracewell’s four-wicket haul also led to NZ outperforming Bangladesh in today’s Champions Trophy 2025.

The Blackcaps chased a modest 237 runs target with loss of five wickets and 23 balls to spare. It merits a mention that, New Zealand faced early hiccups as they lost Will Young and Kane Williamson within four overs.

Following the hiccup, Ravindra partnered with Conway making a 57 run partnership until Conway fell victim to Bangladesh.

Ravindra was then joined by Latham as their partnership remained solid with a 129 score.
