The high-stakes clash between Pakistan and India in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is just days away. The two rivals are set to go head-to-head this Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The PAK vs IND game promises an amazing atmosphere that fans of both countries are eagerly awaiting.

A Rivalry As Old as Time

Being one of the most heated rivalries in the history of the sport, both teams boast passionate fan bases and rich cricketing history. Each encounter between the two is more than just a game – its a spectacle. Sunday’s match will be no different, as both sides will be looking to get ahead in the Champions Trophy standings and secure their place in the next round of the competition.

Pakistan’s Form and Key Players

Pakistan has entered the Champions Trophy in somewhat shaky form, having recently lost to New Zealand in the tri-series final (and the opening game of the champions trophy). Following the injury to Pakistan’s sole genuine opener, Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan’s top order looks in brittle shape.

Imam-Ul-Haq has been named as Fakhar’s replacement and while he is a worthy replacement, Pakistani fans would still be feeling a little nervous without Fakhar Zaman’s usual fireworks at the start of the innings.

Without Fakhar Zaman to lead the charge against the New Zealand bowlers, the Pakistani team failed to mount any significant challenge against the Kiwis as they lost by 60 runs in their opening match. While he did come on in the later stages of the come, he looked in serious pain and could only score 24 runs off 41 balls.

Much of the responsibility for the PAK vs IND game will fall on Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan. Babar Azam in particular, came under heavy criticism after the last game for his slow scoring rate and lack of intent against the New Zealand team.

Can these two soak up the pressure and guide the team to what would be a famous win? Time will tell on Sunday.

On the bowling end, the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah will look to provide the firepower needed to unsettle India’s formidable batting lineup.

Pakistan’s other talents, including batter Salman Ali Agha and pacer Haris Rauf, will also be looking to make a significant impact on Sunday. Their ability to handle high-pressure situations will be key in taking control of a match that will undoubtedly be one of the biggest events of the year.

India’s Stronghold and Key Players

India, on the other hand, enters the contest as the favourites, with their recent track record against Pakistan in ICC events giving them the upper hand. Rohit Sharma’s team have been in superb form with an impressive (and in-form) batting lineup including Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer.

They comfortably won their last match against Bangladesh with Shubman Gill scoring an unbeaten century (101). They comfortably chased down a target of 229 runs – losing only 4 wickets in the process. On the bowling end, Muhammad Shami got 5 wickets from his 10 overs while Harshit Rana chipped in with 3 wickets.

With Rohit Sharma leading the charge and Virat Kohli to steady the innings, the Indian team will be aiming to win against their Asian counterparts.

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, making a comeback from an ankle injury, will be looking to carry on his momentum from the first game while spinners like Ravindra Jadeja could play a crucial role on the Dubai pitch, which has always supported spinners later in the game.

Shubman Gill, a rising star and the current no.1 ODI batsman is another force to be reckoned with. He scored a century in the Champions Trophy game against Bangladesh and will be looking to do the same against Pakistan.

The Dubai Factor

Dubai’s International Cricket Stadium, known for its spectacular surroundings and passionate crowds, will provide the perfect stage for this rivalry. The conditions are expected to offer something for both the pacers and spinners, making it a true test of skills. While the heat and humidity may play a factor, both teams have had plenty of time to prepare for the game.

What’s at Stake

With the Champions Trophy being one of the most prestigious tournaments in world cricket, a victory in this encounter will be crucial not just for bragging rights but also for securing momentum early in the competition. As for Pakistan, a loss in the PAK vs Ind match could prove fatal and could spell their end at the tournament after losing their first game against New Zealand.

Fans across the globe will be glued to their screens for what is expected to be a thrilling contest – a match full of passion, drama, and cricketing brilliance.

As always, when these two teams meet, the cricket world stops and takes notice. Sunday’s showdown will certainly be no exception.
