WEBDESK: The man accused of killing senior lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam in Karachi has been identified as his former gunman, Imran Khan Afridi.
According to police officials, Imran Afridi had previously worked for the lawyer as a personal security guard. He is now the prime suspect in the murder case and remains on the run.
Two of Imran Afridi’s relatives have been detained from the Gulshan Sikandarabad area. Police are questioning them to track down the fugitive. A search operation is currently underway to arrest the suspect.

The deadly shooting took place in Karachi’s Defence Phase 6, where Khawaja Shamsul Islam had arrived with his son to attend a funeral.
CCTV footage from the scene shows a man wearing shalwar kameez firing at the lawyer inside a mosque. The attacker had his face covered with a mask and managed to flee on a motorcycle after the shooting.
Khawaja Shamsul Islam was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital. He did not survive and passed away while receiving medical treatment. His son was also injured, but is recovering.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that the shooter’s face was covered.
Khawaja Shamsul Islam was a respected name in Pakistan’s legal community, with over 30 years of service. He had survived a previous attack in November 2024, also in Defence, where he was shot in the hand.
