In a significant development, the Government of Pakistan has conferred the prestigious award of Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) upon General Michael E. Kurilla, Commander of United States Central Command (USCENTCOM).

President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the military decoration upon Gen Kurilla at a formal ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr today.
On June 10, 2025, the head of the US Central Command, General Michael Karella, described Pakistan as America’s excellent partner against terrorism during a congress hearing.
According to the CENTCOM Chief, Pakistan played a major role in apprehending the terrorist behind the 2021 Abbey Gate Bombing in Afghanistan, which killed more than 170 people, including multiple US service members.
Under Field Marshal Asim Munir’s leadership, Pakistan and US ties have strengthened significantly, with the US recognizing Pakistan’s main role as a security provider in the region.
During his visit, General Kurilla held detailed meetings with senior Pakistani civil and military leadership, including the President of Pakistan and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff.
Discussions encompassed regional security, military-to-military engagement, and joint efforts to combat terrorism and emerging transnational threats.
This high-level recognition underscores the enduring strategic relationship between Pakistan and the United States and reaffirms their shared commitment to regional peace, security, and long-term defence cooperation.
