WEBDESK: Congress MP Jairam Ramesh has once again launched a scathing attack on the Modi government, accusing it of deliberately avoiding discussion in Parliament on two highly sensitive issues, the ‘Pahalgam False Flag’ and ‘Operation Sindoor’.
The senior leader’s remarks come after US President Donald Trump repeated, for the 25th time in just 73 days, his claim of helping prevent a potential nuclear war between India and Pakistan.
Taking to the social media platform ‘X’ on Tuesday, Ramesh questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued silence on matters of national security that, according to the opposition, demand urgent transparency and accountability.
“The Modi government is neither willing to debate these sensitive matters in Parliament nor assuring any kind of response from the Prime Minister,” said Ramesh. “Mr Modi seems only interested in foreign trips and weakening democratic institutions at home.”
The controversy flared up again after President Trump, during a public event, claimed he personally intervened to stop a war between the two South Asian neighbours. “We stopped wars between India and Pakistan. They were perhaps headed towards nuclear conflict. In the last attack, five Indian jets were shot down. I told them on the phone, if this continues, forget about trade. Both sides are nuclear powers who knew where it would end? I stopped it,” Trump said.
Ramesh did not miss the chance to point out the irony, stating, “This marks the 25th time in 73 days that President Trump has made such a claim. He’s practically celebrating the ‘silver jubilee’ of his own statements. Yet our own Prime Minister remains completely silent.”
Meanwhile, criticism is also mounting over the government’s lack of response to Trump’s repeated comments. So far, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has issued no official reaction, fuelling further concern over India’s diplomatic handling of such serious allegations.
The opposition sees the Modi government’s silence not only as undemocratic but also as a failure to uphold accountability on key national security matters. This comes at a time when India’s foreign policy credibility is increasingly being questioned on the global stage.
