Webdesk: Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are likely to affect several regions today, including Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, and Gilgit-Baltistan, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Heavy rainfall, though isolated, is expected in parts of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, northeastern Punjab, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas. Other parts of the country are likely to remain hot and humid, according to the latest Pakistan weather update.
The PMD has said that moisture from the Arabian Sea is entering the region, while a westerly wave is currently influencing the western and upper parts of the country.
In its detailed forecast for Tuesday, the PMD warned of widespread rain and thunderstorms across the mentioned regions. While high temperatures and humidity will continue elsewhere, some areas may experience heavy to hefty rainfall during the forecast window.
The department cautioned that intense rain tonight and on July 22 may lead to flash flooding in streams and nullahs, especially in the northern and hilly areas such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Dera Ghazi Khan’s hill torrents, northeastern Punjab, and Kashmir.
Heavy showers could also cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of major cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Okara, Nowshera, and Peshawar.
The threat of landslides and mudslides remains high in hilly and vulnerable regions such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
In the past 24 hours, hot and humid weather prevailed across most parts of the country. However, rainfall with wind and thunder was recorded in areas of Islamabad, Upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, Sindh, and Kashmir.
