In a major political development (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa senate elections), the KP government and opposition have reached an agreement to elect senators without a contest. The decision came after a meeting between Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and senior opposition leaders in Peshawar.

According to sources, both sides agreed on a 6-5 formula. PTI will get 6 Senate seats, while the opposition will be given 5. The goal is to avoid any chance of horse trading or political tension during the Senate elections scheduled for July 21.

Chief Minister Gandapur confirmed the deal in a recorded video message. He said that this agreement was made in the larger interest of political stability in the province.

From the opposition’s side, the names include Talha Mehmood, Atta ul Haq Dervesh, Rubina Khalid, Dilawar Khan, and Niaz Ahmed. The PTI’s candidates will be Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Noorul Haq Qadri, Azam Swati, and Rubina Naz.

The agreement was finalized during a high level meeting attended by senior figures from both sides, including PML-N’s Dr. Ibadullah, Senator Talha Mehmood, and others.

This agreement is being seen as a rare moment of political unity in the province. However, behind the scenes, it reflects PTI’s urgency to avoid internal divisions and maintain control after recent instability.

The 11 Senate seats include 7 general, 2 women, and 2 technocrat positions. If the plan works, all senators will be elected without a single vote being cast.

This move is not just about unity. It is also about avoiding embarrassment and proving political maturity after months of tensions between the treasury and opposition benches in KP.

The real test will be in how PTI manages its internal dissent and whether this deal holds till election day.
