WEBDESK: Pakistan railways set to commence this week between Karachi and Lahore; this is another new milestone in the modernisation of railway travel. On July 19, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate this new service in Lahore, which promises travellers a faster, safer, and more comfortable journey along the most active rail corridor in the country.
In its latest endeavour to enhance the experience for travellers, Pakistan Railways has put into use 28 fully digital coaches equipped with modern amenities. Free Wi-Fi is available for passengers during the journey for all those in need of connectivity for professional as well as recreational purposes.
Dining services of an international standard with fine culinary options were added by Pakistan Railways to offer additional comforts and set high standards in long-distance travel.
This premium service is a part of the overall modernisation program of Pakistan Railways intending to update its passenger fleet and align services with international standards.
Officials of Pakistan Railways believe that these improvements will attract additional passengers, especially those for whom comfort, speed, and convenience mean a lot.
In addition to modernising its trains, Pakistan Railways is working towards enhanced efficiency through partnerships with the private sector. Recently, Pakistan Railway earned Rs3,959 million in an open bidding process by outsourcing the commercial management of passenger trains and the operation of brake and luggage vans.
This approach demonstrates the commitment of Pakistan Railways to modern business practices and the enhancement of service delivery.
Financially, Pakistan Railways’ endeavours have begun to pay off. For the first 11 months, the organisation has recorded the highest revenue ever of Rs 83 billion, which is about Rs 6 billion more than the previous year.
The total came to Rs42 billion from passenger services, Rs29 billion from freight operations, and Rs12 billion from other sources. Karachi topped with Rs13 billion from passenger trains and Rs25 billion from freight, followed by Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan.
This new business train will revolutionise long-distance travel between Karachi and Lahore and thus offer a truly contemporary and cosy substitute for erstwhile options. Pakistan Railways hopes to fulfil growing passenger expectations, and in so doing, set a new standard for train travel, by its uninterrupted resolve in technology and customer service in Pakistan.
