WEBDESK: At the recent BRICS summit held in Brazil, India faced yet another major diplomatic setback when its demand to name Pakistan in connection with the Pahalgam attack was completely ignored in the official declaration.

Despite New Delhi’s repeated attempts to push its narrative, the joint statement remained neutral and avoided any mention of Pakistan marking a clear blow to the Modi government’s foreign policy agenda.

According to reports, Indian officials lobbied aggressively to have Pakistan named as the alleged sponsor of the attack. However, the BRICS statement simply condemned the incident in general terms, without attributing blame a decision widely seen as a rejection of India’s one-sided narrative.

Key Players Missing: China and Russia Avoid BRICS

Making matters worse for India, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not attend the summit. This is the first time since 2012 that the Chinese head of state has skipped a BRICS gathering, while Putin’s absence was equally significant. Their non-participation is being interpreted as a clear sign that Beijing and Moscow are unwilling to back New Delhi’s regional accusations.

This isn’t the first time India’s anti-Pakistan diplomatic campaign has faltered.

India’s Diplomatic Isolation Grows

At several recent multilateral events, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and the QUAD Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, India faced similar failures. Both forums condemned acts of terrorism, including the Pahalgam incident, but refused to name Pakistan, despite India’s push.

India’s narrative also fell flat at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), where efforts to keep Pakistan on the grey list failed. These repeated failures paint a clear picture of India’s growing diplomatic isolation especially when it comes to pushing a Pakistan-blaming agenda on international platforms.

No International Support for India’s Claims

Not a single major country stood with India in its attempt to link Pakistan with the Pahalgam attack. This growing international reluctance to support New Delhi’s accusations indicates that Modi’s government is losing credibility on the global stage.

The pattern is now clear: from SCO to BRICS, from FATF to QUAD, India’s attempts to name and shame Pakistan are being rejected by the world signalling a major collapse in its foreign policy approach.
