Explosions were reported in Tehran and the nearby city of Karaj, west of the Iranian capital, according to local Iranian news websites cited by Reuters, amid a sharp escalation in cross-border attacks between Iran and Israel.
The reported blasts followed a fresh wave of Iranian missile launches that triggered air raid sirens across Israel, including in Tel Aviv. Israeli media said this marked at least the eighth such attack in the past 24 hours, part of a broader tit-for-tat exchange that has raised regional tensions to new highs.
Earlier, fragments from incoming projectiles were reported to have landed in parts of central Israel, with unconfirmed accounts suggesting possible impacts near Jerusalem and the greater Tel Aviv area.
The Israeli military said most of the missiles were intercepted by its air defence systems, but acknowledged that some had breached defences in recent days, causing damage in certain areas. Due to military censorship in Israel, full details about the extent and locations of the hits remain unclear.
The latest developments come amid growing fears of a wider conflict, as both nations show no signs of backing down from increasingly aggressive retaliatory actions.
