Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, while addressing the Senate on Monday clarified Pakistan’s security and foreign policy amidst escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.
Referencing the recent wave of disinformation targeting Pakistan, FM Dar highlighted that fake news was created about a false statement attributed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Pakistan’s position in the Iran-Israel conflict.
“AI-generated images and videos were created. We have to be careful because extremely wrong and misleading news is being spread. War is not a joke,” he said.
Furthermore, the foreign minister also reiterated that “our nuclear program and missiles are there for only our own security.”
The clarification comes after social media was flooded with fake news and propaganda by Indian RAW-affiliated accounts that Pakistan would use nuclear bomb against Israel in the event Iran would be attacked by Israel.
This is absolutely false and propaganda being spread by anti-Pakistan elements on social media. Experts have suggested that this wave of fake news is an attempt to drag Pakistan into a war with which Pakistan has nothing to do.
Dar further said, “Israel does not dare to look at Pakistan with a dirty eye, even if Netanyahu’s statement is from 2011, it should not be ignored, Pakistan’s armed forces are constantly on alert.”
He said that we should clear things up regarding fake news, misleading misinformation is being spread, caution should be exercised, a clip about US President Trump was being played yesterday, later it was found out that it was generated by AI.
Ishaq Dar said that their effort was to ensure that the negotiations between the US and Iran were successful. “The Foreign Ministers of Oman and Iran kept me in touch. The Iranian representative in the Security Council thanked four countries, including Pakistan.”
