United States (US) President Donald Trump has told Israel not to make plans about the assassination of Ali Khamenei, irIran’s Supreme Leader.
According to Reuters, US officials told them that Israelis informed US that they had an opportunity to kill Ali Khamenei, but Trump warned against it.
Trump has been in frequent communications with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as per the officials.
During an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu did not directly confirm or deny a report from Reuters that Trump had vetoed a plan to kill the top leader, reported BBC.
“I can tell you I think we do what we need to do. We will do what we need to do and I think the United States knows what is good for the United States and I’m just not going to get into it”, he said.
Earlier in the day, Trump claimed that Iran and Israel would make a deal like Pakistan and India did.
He said, “We will have peace, soon, between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings now taking place. I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that’s ok the people understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!”
It is pertinent to mention that Trump’s official statement suggests he does not want to escalate the situation. On the other hand, Israel is aggressively targeting Iran, with over 200 people reportedly killed in Israeli attacks.
Israeli army chief Eyal Zamir has pledged to increase attacks on Iran, as part of a “historic and unprecedented operation aimed at delivering a significant blow to an existential threat”.
On Monday morning, Israel attacked districts of Narmak and Lavizan in Tehran.
In response, Iran is retaliating with force.
