Heatwave alert issued from June 9 to June 12 across Pakistan

Heatwave alert

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday issued a heatwave alert, starting from June 9 to June 12, for the country.

According to the Met Office, the day temperatures across the country are expected to rise 05 to 07°Celsius above normal temperatures.

Regions including central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to witness increased temperatures.

Meanwhile, the day temperatures are likely to remain 04 to 06°C above normal in upper and central Sindh, southern Punjab, and parts of Balochistan from June 9 to June 12.

The Met Office stated that the increased temperatures will occur in the country due to the development of high pressure over Pakistan.

Citizens have faced soaring temperatures across the country during Eid-ul-Azha 2025; however, PMD’s latest heatwave alert has further alerted the public.

PMD has also issued an advisory for citizens, particularly women, children, and senior citizens, to take precautionary measures.

These measures include avoiding direct sunlight during the day and remaining hydrated throughout the day.

Jacobabad witnessed a record temperature of 50 Celsius on June 8, with many cities facing almost similar severe hot weather.

Temperatures across cities are likely to exceed 47 degrees Celsius in many areas.

The temperature in Lahore reached 37 degrees Celsius early in the morning on Monday, while the Meteorological Department said that the temperature is likely to reach 47 degrees Celsius after noon.

The dry weather forecast means that there is little chance of relief for the city’s residents in the coming days.
