Social media is not happy with Wasim Akram’s statue placed at Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad.
A picture of the statue of Pakistan’s legendary cricketer Wasim Akram went viral on social media, with people criticising it for bearing little resemblance to the former fast bowler.

Twitter funny reactions on Wasim Akram’s statue

X’ users are reacting differently to Akram’s statue. Some are critically analysing the artistic work, while for others, the statue reminds them of the Allama Iqbal statue in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Lahore, which was later taken down and replaced after public criticism.

One user even suggested that Wasim Akram should resign or file a case against the makers of the statue.

Some jokingly referred to the statue as the ‘Temu’ or ‘Daraz’ version of Wasim Akram.

A look at Wasim Akram’s career

Wasim Akram played in 104 Test matches for Pakistan from 1985 to 2002. During his test career he took 414 wickets with an average of 23.62. In One-Day Internationals, he bagged 502 wickets over 356 games. Regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers in cricket history, Akram was honoured with a spot in the all-time World Test XI to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack. In 2002, Wisden named him the top bowler in its unique ratings list, giving him a remarkable score of 1223.5 points, putting him ahead of cricket legends like Imran Khan, Waqar Younis, and Allan Donald. He also made history by being the first bowler to reach 500 wickets in ODIs.
