The last time Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC) introduced a major change in the Corolla’s design was in 2014. Since then, the automaker has not altered the shape of the car and continues to sell the same variant and model, albeit at almost three times the price it cost in 2014. But will Toyota Pakistan change the shape of one of its best-selling models in 2025? The answer is a bit complicated.

Reports from mid-2024 indicated that Toyota was planning to release the 12th-generation Toyota Corolla in Pakistan in 2025. However, as of March, there are no signs from the automaker that the 12th-gen Corolla will be launched here anytime soon. Neither dealerships nor those in the car trade have any timeline or date for when the new model will be introduced. However, there are reports suggesting that the 12th-gen Corolla will be priced above Rs8 million in Pakistan.

Pakistani automakers are often criticised for introducing obsolete models in the country, usually when they have been retired elsewhere. A notable example is the Honda City, which is currently sold in Pakistan long after being discontinued in other markets. The same seems to be happening with the Corolla, as the 12th-gen Corolla is already available in international markets, but not here.

The company has discontinued selling the GLi and XLi base trims for the Corolla, offering only the Altis variants, which come with 1600cc and 1800cc engines. It is possible the same approach will be taken for the 12th-gen Corolla. It remains unclear whether Toyota will retain its top variant, the 1800cc “Grande”, for the new model or introduce a new name. However, it is expected that the Altis variants will continue to be sold. Some reports even suggest that a hybrid version of the Toyota Corolla may be introduced in the future.

For now, these are just speculations, and we will have to wait for the locally assembled 12th-gen Toyota Corolla to be officially launched.
